A team of Councillors and community volunteers sponsored by the Parish Council have put in a bid to the National Lottery’s ‘Parks for People’ scheme for a grant to refurbish Stafford Orchard Park in the centre of Quorn.
The project will:
revitalise the somewhat faded and underused public park in the heart of the village
increase and broaden use of the park; make it more welcoming by improving the entrances, access and boundaries; provide better public amenities
make people feel safe there
achieve Green Flag status; employ a groundsman to look after the park
involve volunteers in all aspects of the park’s management, maintenance, use and development
enhance biodiversity and natural habitat (particularly in the brook area); provide a sensory garden and peaceful area; plant new trees and shrubs; adopt organic horticulture and sustainable practices and policies
Unite the brook area (the old Swyne Green) and Stafford lands
provide information and interpretation of the history, heritage and archaeology of the park and surrounding area
provide new infrastructure: soft and hard recreational areas; children’s playground; youth facilities; a level grassed space for games; a performance space; seating; waterside play, picnic and family areas by the brook
Organise and promote events in the park including brass bands, outdoor theatre, concerts, fetes and carnivals; involve local clubs, societies and businesses in planning/organising events
This is a community project, developed by the village team in consultation with local people, and it has the full support of Charnwood Borough Council and Leicestershire County Council.
